Although there are
many causes of Neuropathy and nerve damage,
diabetes is responsible for approximately
50% of all cases. Over 70% of diabetics
suffer from Peripheral Neuropathy. There
are many other medical conditions associated
with nerve damage as well. These include
facial nerve problems, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,
Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease and
others.
Nerve damage in the neck and
low back are one of the most common cause of long-term
disability. Surgical correction of Carpal
Tunnel Syndrome has up to a 50% recurrence
rate.

Solvent Causes
Nerve Damage
According to the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention, repeated exposure to
a chemical found in some car maintenance products
can cause nerve problems, including numbness
in the hands, feet and forearms. In
extreme cases, the chemical solvent n-hexane,
found in some products used to clean and de-grease
engines, can lead to loss of motor skills.
The warning follows a study by health
officials in California, who found that three
mechanics reported the numbness and tingling
after using some products with n-hexane, including
a brake cleaner that contained up to 60 percent
n-hexane. Symptoms
of Nerve Damage
Besides loss of feeling in feet and hands,
there may be other signs of nerve damage
including abnormal sweating, light-headedness,
stomach and/or bowel problems. There may
also be difficulty in urinating, as well
as frequent bladder or kidney infections.
Some people also experience sexual
problems including impotence.
